Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygenation in Oncology

Today we come to talk to you about the benefits of hyperbaric oxygenation in oncology.

Many may not yet be aware of this fact, but the reality is that hyperbaric oxygen therapy, also known as HBO, is very beneficial in treating some types of cancer. Not only that, but it has many benefits to help reverse the effects of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy.

Hyperbaric oxygenation in oncology has a triple indication:

Firstly, it is considered a successful therapeutic modality for the treatment of late radiation injuries and the prevention of such injuries, an indication that is recognized by the UHMS (Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society ). We refer to osteoradionecrosis, which appears primarily in the jaw due to radiation from oral and oropharyngeal cancers, chest wall necrosis, which is a consequence of radiation from lung, breast or esophageal tumors, hemorrhagic radial cysititis, abdominal and pelvic lesions and neurological lesions from radiation.

Secondly, HBO is a radiosensitizer, which used before radiotherapy, increases the therapeutic effect of the latter on the tumor.

in the last place to treat the entire clinical picture that appears as a result of the chemotherapy, as it is the deficit of stem cells, the anemia and the general deterioration that generates an important sensation of disease, with diminution of the energy and the defenses; the use of the HBO reverts this situation, producing an acceleration of the cellular recovery with considerable clinical improvement.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, along with other cancer-specific treatments, can help make suffering from a tumor much more bearable, by repairing collateral damage or even minimizing the impact.
